A recent article in Digital Trends addressed some recent rumors coming out of the Mazda camp. They have to do with Mazda’s performance division, Mazdaspeed. It looks like “Mazda is considering a Mazdaspeed version of the just-announced Mazda2,” while also considering “a new Mazdaspeed3 and Mazdaspeed6.” We here at Lancaster Mazda are looking forward to these suped-up versions!
The Mazda2, a hatchback, debuted this year in Paris. It’s got a 1.5-liter, 100 hp engine. It’s also light, weighing only 2,300 lbs, so Digital Trend suggests “a hopped-up performance version wouldn’t need much power to be great.”
The upcoming Mazdaspeed3 will boast an impressive powertrain. Under the hood, there will be a 2.5-liter Skyactiv turbo unit that achieves over 300 hp. The Mazdaspeed3 is also expected to have an AWD system.
As far as the Mazdaspeed6 is concerned, Digital Trends tell us that “little is known” about it at this time, so stay tuned to our blog for updates on the Mazdaspeed versions of the Mazda2, Mazda3 and Mazda6.
